落雷に遭わないテクニック

いよいよ夏のアウトドアシーズン本番となってきました。夏のアウトドアで怖いものの一つが落雷ですよね。特に山岳地帯は、落雷の発生頻度も高いので注意が必要です。しっかり落雷のメカニズムを理解して、落雷をマネジメントしましょう。

2.積乱雲の発生
3.避雷のタイプ
4.落雷の予防

1.落雷のメカニズム
温められた空気が上昇するにつれて、空気中の水蒸気は雲の中で雹（ひょう）や霰（あられ）になります。重くなると、落下し始めますが、上昇気流によって、周辺の氷の粒とぶつかりあい、静電気が生じます。電子を受け取ったマイナス分子は重くなり雲の下に、電子をわたしたプラス分子は、雲の上に移動します。

地表では、雲の下のマイナス電荷により、ちょうど磁石のマイナスとマイナスが反発するように、マイナス電荷が押し出され、プラスの電荷になります。

雲の下にマイナス電荷が溜まると、マイナス電荷は放電先を探し、電気の回路を出します。これがステップリーダーです。空気は絶縁体ですので、ステップリーダーは、放電先を探すように、輝くのです。

地表の一番近い場所などのプラスの電荷と回路を形成すると、そこに溜まっていたマイナス電荷を一気に放電します。これが雷です。

2.積乱雲の発生
雷雲として知られる積乱雲の発生メカニズムを知ることによって、雷を予測することができます。積乱雲ができるには、湿った空気が持ち上げあれることが必要です。

1)地形による上昇気流
山での積乱雲の一般的なメカニズムです。空気が山に沿って上昇することにより、積乱雲を形成します。平地に湖などにより湿った空気があると、より大きな積乱雲に発達します。日中暖められた空気が上昇するために、夏山では午後から積乱雲が発生する確率が高まります。夏山では雷の前に山行を終えられるよう、午後3時ごろまでには、テントサイトにつく計画を立てましょう。

2)前線による上昇気流
寒冷前線は、暖かい空気の下に、冷たい空気が入り込むため、温度差により、暖かい空気が急激に上昇し、積乱雲を形成します。しとしと雨の後に、暖かくなったときには、その後に寒冷前線がきますので、要注意です。

3)陸地と海洋の温度差による上昇気球
海洋は冬に冷やされるとその温度を保とうとします。一方陸地は夏に急速に暖められます。陸地と海の境界面では、陸地の暖められた空気が、急速に上昇し、積乱雲を形成します。さらに、海は周囲に人よりも高いものがないことや、水が電気を通すため、避雷のリスクが高いといえます。遠くでなっている雷もあなどってはいけません。

3.避雷のタイプ
雷の直撃以外にも避雷することがあります。避雷のメカニズムを知って適切に予防しましょう。
1)空気放電
高い木の近くにいると、木に落ちた雷が放電し、避雷することがあります。木のテッペンから45度以内にいれば、木が避雷針となり、直撃のリスクは減りますが、同時に木からも4m以上離れなければ空気放電の可能性があります。
2)地上伝導
同様に、高い木に落ちた雷が、地面を伝導し、避雷することもあります。また、岩場のクラック（割れ目）や、小さな谷筋なども、雷が地上伝導する回路となります。雷を避けるために絶対入ってはいけないところです。
3)物体伝導
伝導体である金属のフェンスなどを通じて避雷することもあります。車に逃げ込んだ時も、車のボディに触れていると感電することがあります。

4.落雷の予防
以前北海道の大雪で行ったWEAコース中に２回雷雲に囲まれました。１回目は、活動をすぐに中止して、林の中に入り、タープを張って、即席の落雷マネジメントレクチャーをしました。周りでバンバン雷が落ちていて、めちゃくちゃティーチャブルモーメントでした（写真左：雷の通過後の晴れ間）。２回目は大雪トムラウシのハイマツの広々した稜線で、個々にハイマツに隠れてやり過ごすという選択肢もあったのですが、これ以上停滞すると、明るいうちに目的につけないというリスクもあり、メンバーの間隔を５mぐらい開けて、雷雲の中山行を続けました。定期的にいちばん先頭から1,2,3,4..と順番を数え、生存を確認するのですが、一番最後の私が打たれたら、誰か助けてくれるのかなと心配になりました（写真右：ライトニングハイキングテクニック）。

雷のマネジメントも上述したメカニズムを理解すれば、最小化することができます。以下アウトドアで効果的な落雷の予防と対処方法です。

落雷の予防
1)天気予報
雷の発生の原因となる天気を避けましょう。最近では雷の予測の天気予報もありますね。
2)観天望気
積乱雲（入道雲）は目視でも確認できるわかりやす情報です。寒冷前線の通過により、空気が急に冷たくなったり、空が暗くなると、積乱雲の予兆です。
3)電気的サイン
プラスの電子を帯びた地表もまた、マイナス電子と回路を形成しようとします。産毛が逆立ったつのは、いつ雷が落ちてもおかしくないサインです。
４）30/30ルール
積乱雲の直径は数〜十数キロと言われています。音の速さは340m/sなので、稲妻が光ってから、30秒以内の雷鳴を聞いたら、もう積乱雲の下にいます。また、雷をやり過ごして、稲妻と雷鳴の差が30秒以上になったら活動を再開します。
5)シェルター
雷の予兆があれば、安全な場所にテントを立てて、避難しましょう。体が乾いていれば、感電のリスクが下がります。

落雷の対処
1)場所
独立した立木、大岩、ピーク、尾根は、落雷の可能性の高い場所です。ここから離れましょう。また、開けた場所では、あなたが最も落雷の可能性が高いので、すぐに林やブッシュの中に身をかがめましょう。
2)金属
ハイキングポール、ピッケル、金属性の背負子、アクセサリーを外します。これらは避雷するリスクを下げるものではありませんが、避雷したときに、電気回路を形成し、ダメージを高めます。
3)水
水は、伝導体です。湖、沢、濡れた場所にいると、地面伝導による避雷の原因となります。
4)洞窟、クラック
浅い窪み、谷間、クラックは、電気回路の形成を助けます。これらには隠れないようにしましょう。もし洞窟に逃げ込む場合は、少なくても自分の身長よりも２〜４倍深くて乾いているところ選びましょう。
5)姿勢
テントの中にいるときは、天幕に触れずに、絶縁体であるマットや寝袋の上に座り、鼓膜を守るために、両手で耳を塞ぎましょう。
6)グループ
グループはできる限り離れてバラバラになりましょう。全員一緒にいると、いっぺんに避雷する可能性があります。離れていれば、一人がもし避雷しても、他のメンバーがレスキューすることができます。
